August 2006 – present                       Field/Remote Systems Enginner

Role is divided between field-based and remote support.  The company provides IT services for small to medium sized businesses.  Install systems and provide support for servers (including Small Business Server), desktops, Exchange, Active Directory, networks, printers, backup devices, UPS’s, anti-virus software and Blackberry devices. 

July 2006 – August 2006                    Field Systems Engineer

Short-term contract working for small IT company.  Visited customer sites installing systems and problem solving.  Systems included servers, Exchange, anti-spam software, anti-virus software, wireless networks, handheld devices, PCs and printers. 

November 2005 – June 2006             Exchange Migration Engineer

Contract supporting Exchange 2003 migration.  This included the support of Exchange 2003, Server 2003, Active Directory, Blackberry servers and anti-virus applications.  Typical issues included backup failures, hardware and network diagnostics, mailbox problems and server capacity limits.

·         Main role was providing second line support for the migration of Exchange 5.5 mailboxes to Exchange 2000 mail system users.  This was both during and after the rollout of Exchange 2000 server across Shell. 

·         The number of users supported was approximately 100,000.

·         Problems could be profile, PC or server related.

·         Role also involved working with Active Directory.

·         I wrote numerous articles for Primus, the Shell solutions website.

·         Also wrote documentation, including anti-virus procedures.

·         Attended teleconference meetings with the messaging departments in the Americas and Asia-Pacific regions.

·         I was Anti-Virus Focal Point for the Messaging Department. Updated my department on relevant anti-virus issues.

·         Ran tests on the anti-virus applications on the Exchange servers, eg testing the server software update procedures in Antigen.

·         I was involved in emergency virus meetings and follow ups in the event of major virus outbreaks.

·         I was Instant Messaging Focal Point for the department and was therefore the main contact for instant messaging issues.

·         Whilst working at Shell, I have worked for IMG Desktop, IMG Messaging, IMG Server and the IMG Livelink Team.  

October 1997 – June 2001                 Systems Engineer (Field Based)

  • A number of the contracts involved configuring desktops and servers.  Mainly Microsoft Windows systems.

  • During my time at Computacenter I was promoted from Senior Support Engineer to Systems Engineer.
