Work Experience:    

October 2006 – November 2007: As a Software Engineer on a contract with [snip], Kuwait.

  • I was working as a Software Tester in the QA team. I worked on a Java based application (with Oracle as Back end) for the ITG division of our client Zain Telecom.
  • Roles: 1) Liaise with Business Analysts, Technical Architects and Developers. 2) Preparing and maintaining test plans, 3) Requirement analysis, building test cases and scripts and Executing them as per the time plan, 4) Developing effective QA processes, including managing metrics for test execution, defect tracking and configuration management, 5) Adhering to Test Life cycle ( V- Model) and the quality guidelines laid, 6) Developing defect report documents, 7) Database, functional, Integration and Regression testing, 7) Use of QTP tool for testing end to end functionality.
  • Studying about Orthogonal testing methodologies – a robust testing method using mathematical tool of arrays to select the test cases intelligently and improves the testing efficiency. Thus, helps reducing the cost of testing and producing a bug free application.

July 2004 – September 2005: As a Software Engineer with [snip] Ltd. Noida, India

  • [snip] - a GE Equity strategic investment company, practicing six sigma quality norms which complement CMMI level 5 model followed in the company. I was a part of the Quality Assurance Team working on a number of applications in General Electric-Commercial Finance Division.
  • Roles: 1) Requirement Analysis, 2) Test Script Preparation, Execution and Configuration Management, 3) Manual and Automated functional testing using Mercury tools like Winrunner, QTP, Test Director. Some exposure to Load Runner as well, 4) Regression, End to End and non-functional testing; Production Support, 5) Complete Exposure to the Test life cycle developed by [snip] Ltd. which properly maps the SDLC.
  • I had to interact with the clients/ Business Analysts regularly during the Requirement analysis, defect logging & defect fixing stages. Worked closely with the development team to ensure prompt resolution of software issues / bugs. Prepared many final status reports and sent it to the Client/ BA as per their requirements.
  • I started a six sigma green belt project on reducing the test life-cycle time by improving the automation process of testing. The project was at the middle stage before leaving the company for my higher studies.
  • Many good VOC’s (Voice of Customer) and appreciations received while working as a team on a number of applications.

September 2002 to July 2003: As a Project Trainee in [snip], New Delhi, India

  • The company was into consumer credit recovery business. The Client – Server based application enabled the co-ordination between customer care executives and field employees. The application was designed in VB using MS access as the database.
  • Role: 1) Test case preparation and execution, 2) Extensively performed manual testing process to ensure the quality of the software, 3) Analyzing test Results and creating bug reports, 4) Verification of fixed defects and change the status of the defect by closing them with the observations and development comments, 5) Interacting with Development and QA team to ensure the overall quality processes are followed, 6) Functional/ Black box , integration and Regression testing, 7) Exposure to the SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle)
  •  Unit testing using VB which gave me good exposure to the VB6. Designing forms, database connectivity using RDO and SQL queries.

Education:   

October 2005 – September 2006

·         MSc. in Computer and Communications Engineering from the University of York, UK (secured 2:1).

·         Relevant Course content: Personal & Mobile Communications, Signal Processing, Wireless and Satellite Systems, Advances Coding and Modulation, Socket Programming, Communications ECAD, Marketing Techniques and People & Quality.

·         Wrote a Technical paper based on IEEE format on the ‘Fourth Generation of Mobile Phones- Market and Technology’ for a module on Emerging Technologies.

·         Worked on a life-like team project all the year round, developing valuable teamwork, inter-personal and transferable skills. At the end of the project called ‘Vertical Handover Issues in Mobile IP’, our team developed a small Vertical Handoff demonstrator using network protocols programming in C (using packages like Libnet and iptables) working in Suse version 9.0 environment (Linux). This model could perform IP in IP encapsulation and divert the packets to intermediate wireless nodes, before sending it to the desired destination. 

September 2000 – May 2004

·         BE in Computer Science and Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra Ranchi, Jharkhand, India.

·         Relevant Course content: Advanced Engineering Mathematics -1,2,3, C, C++, Java, DBMS, Data Structures, Unix Operating System, Compiler Design, Computer Networks, Data Communications, Distributed Operating System, Parallel Computing, Mobile and Cellular communications & Software Engineering.

·         2 Semester Project: Research & project on M2M technology. M2M technology is about machine   to machine, mobile to machine, man to machine communications. Made a simulator   which   showed how the data packet moved from various Stages of GSM Hierarchy, passed through M2M Gateway and reached M2M connectivity device.

·         Secured a first class degree with 74% aggregate. 

April 1997– May 2000

·         All India Senior School Certificate Examinations (A-Level) and GCSE-Level Examination from Oxford Senior Secondary School, New Delhi, India

·         ‘A’ Level - First Class with Distinction with 83% aggregate, and 97% marks in Mathematics & 89% in Computer Science.

·         GCSE- Level - First Class with Distinction with 82% aggregate, and 90% marks in Mathematics & 99% in Science.

·         Academic Achievement: Merit certificate from AISSCE for securing 99% marks in Science & stood amongst 0.1% all over India for this achievement. 

Volunteering and Leadership Experiences

·         Back up team leader for one of the teams in the QACOE division of [snip]. The team also bagged the “Best team of the month” award.

·         Hostel Club Secretary for one year during my U/G course. I tried to bring certain changes in the hostel mess, which were beneficial for both the students and the hostel staff. This experience helped gaining confidence on communication and leadership skills.

·         Dance club Event manager for my final year U/G course. This helped improving my motivational and management skills.

·         I worked with the Disabilities Support Service group in the University of York campus for almost a year. This part-time service was the most satisfying experience and it helped me boost my transferable skills, as I had to interact and help people with different kind of disabilities.
