I have been working in the IT Industry since leaving school and over these years have gained a vast amount of experience. I am currently a Senior Configuration and Environments Manager, able to deliver Projects on time and within budget. I have come from a development background which means I have a good insight into the way development teams work, what they require from their environments and the best use of configuration management/version control.

Summary of Main Skills

  • Environment / Configuration Management – Have good experience of managing environments, change control, production releases, version control.
  • Windows NT - Been working with Windows NT since 1995 starting with the 3.51 version, and now 2000/3. Able to create NT Domains, configure all NT services (including Network), user administration, performance tuning, Internet Server, profiles, RAS, and more.
  • Networking - Involved with Networking since 1990. Have a good understanding and practical knowledge of Category 5 Cabling, Hubs, Switches, Routers, and ISDN access. Installed in the past complete Networks with NetWare, SCO Unix, Linux, and Windows NT.
  • PVCS Version Manager - using PVCS version manager since 1987 (Both GUI and Web/Server Versions). Having the ability to create and maintain project databases, performance tune the product, create access rights, promotional lists, command line interfaces, triggers, etc
  • Informix I have written a complete accounting system using Informix products under SCO Openserver V, which I use for my own accounts, along with other systems developed for other businesses.
  • MySQL – Many database enabled systems created using this popular database.
  • SCO Openserver I have the skills to administer SCO Openserver and able to undertake such tasks as the swapping out of hard drives installed new hard drives and configuring them (SCSI). Also have good knowledge of script writing.
  • Unix - working with Unix since 1988. This includes HP-UX, SCO, AIX, and Sinix. Skills include the administration of the operating system, user maintenance, printer configuration, tuning, cron, kernel re-building, network configuration, SCSI device installation & configuration. Also have knowledge of ftp, telnet, NFS, LPD, http. I can write shell scripts.
  • Informix 4gl/sql - working with Informix products since 1991. Skills include the writing of 4gl code; SQL scripts reports and enquiries, controlling access privileges to tables and database. I can also rebuild / re-cluster tables, performance tune tables and databases using indexes and Unix links. Also have experience of interfacing of Informix ISAM systems to other systems.
  • Cobol – Have been working with various versions of Cobol through out my career (since 1978). I can design, write, test, and fix Cobol programs
  • Basic- worked with various flavours of Basic since 1980.
  • Visual Basic – Numerous systems written and amended using this tool.
  • Novell NetWare - working with Novell NetWare since 1992 starting with 3.1 and more recently 5.0. Have extensive experience of administering NetWare Servers.

Assisting with the development of my wife’s business. This included planning and implementing all the necessary computer systems to effectively run the business. This business is now profitable and working well so I am now looking for a new challenge.

Two fold role:

1. Development of a vertical market software system for an internet based business. System used MySQL as its backend database repository with VB as the front end GUI. Additionally PHP/Apache deployed to provide web facing active content. I am unable to provide much information on this as it is the subject of an NCD.

2. Design and implementation of infrastructure to support this internet based business.
