Feb 2000 to present day ~ XXXX Southampton
At ABP my main role
is that of IT Infrastructure Manager, this involves leading a
team of 5 technical analysts based in two locations Southampton
and Cardiff. The team are responsible for supporting around 520
users, and for implementation of new technology and products to
the user base. I am a hands on person and I feel that in this
sort of environment it is important that a manager is
comfortable with the technology his staff are supporting and
working with. I am also responsible for the design and
implementation of an ever-expanding network comprising of both
LAN and WAN technologies, adequate backup, DR facilities and
critical system maintenance cover. My team also provides out of
hours support for certain departments within the business.
Another part of my
role in the ABP IT department is to run various projects mainly
IT implementation in nature, these projects are based around the
PRINCE 2 methodology that ABP have adopted and slightly modified
to fit in with the group project strategy. I am a qualified
PRINCE 2 project manager and have a number of successful
projects under my belt.
Ports are
potentially an extremely dangerous place and as a result ABP
have embarked on an extensive project to train all their
managers in Health and safety, as a result of this I am a
qualified IOSH Risk Assessor, and have attended the IOSH
“Control of Contractors” & “Managing Safely” Course. We
regularly perform risk assessments on other departments as a
method of keeping our risk assessment skills keen.

Here I assisted
with the additional work the company had with regard to the year
2000 issues. This included ensuring that all systems where
compliant with the date change and supporting their user base
over this period.

At Pirelli I was a
member of a small IT team of 3 that supported approx 170 users
based in the Southampton area some in an office environment and
some users in a manufacturing environment, The applications
supported here where mainly MS office, Windows O/S and Novell
with access to an IBM AS400/RS6000 based MRP System.

I held the position
of certified Novell instructor with a company called QDL based
in Southampton who where take over by Interquad in Slough. I
delivered the whole range of Novell networking courses both in
the UK and abroad. This experience means that I am no stranger
to speaking to small and large groups as training courses and
presentations.
Private life
I hold the position
of Honorary Secretary at the [xxx] this
involves ensuring members abide by the club rules. I have been
voted back into this position 3 years running so I must be doing
something right. I am a very keen sailor with my own yacht on
the river Hamble and I enjoy travelling.
