this London City-based Management Consultancy specialising in
advising companies on sourcing strategies and trends. In
addition to business development and lead generation activities,
I was on a varied and wide range of full time on-site client
assignments and as lead consultant. As Head of Professional
Development Services (Training) I was also extensively involved
in designing, marketing, selling and delivering practical
training workshops and programmes for both clients and vendors.
Specific interest and thought leadership in the cultural,
governance, organisational and skills changes associated with
outsourcing. Developed a Governance Model which was
successfully used with clients and featured in workshops.

commercial review of supplier’s proposal for contract re-let for
one of the largest Outsourcing contracts in the UK. Examined
dependencies and potential barriers to successful implementation
and produced a report identifying associated risks and change
imperatives. Outlined governance changes necessary.

Subsidiary of Global Snack Foods Supplier
Examined options
for cost reductions and efficiency improvements through
outsourcing and
prepared an associated State of Work and Draft Contract and
Schedules for the project.

International Shipbuilders
Advised and
assisted the company in divesting its internal IT capability and
the creation of a stand-alone service vendor. Prepared
associated draft contract and Service Level Agreements.
Global Contract
Manufacturing Service Company
Year long
assignment to devise complete sourcing strategy for this rapidly
growing $10Bn North American company with manufacturing
capabilities on every continent. Constructed business case and
procurement strategy and oversaw entire project through to
selection of a major vendor for a potential $100M p.a.
contract. Also assisted the company in developing its internal
change and governance programme.
1998 - 1999
Regional Director, IT Services Supplier
Recruited upon
leaving the Army in July 1998, with a brief to establish a new
Southern Region for the Company. Effected the introduction of
the Company to a new business partner and to several high-level
clients and successfully raised the Company's business profile
in London and the South of England. Left to take up opportunity
in consultancy.
1994 -1998
Chief Executive (Brigadier), Logistic Information Systems
Agency
First CEO of a new
Defence Agency providing information systems, services and
support to Defence logistics, a business with a £1.2 Bn annual
budget. Accountable to Parliament and subject to National Audit
Office audit and scrutiny. Negotiated an innovative
revenue-sharing partnership with a major private-sector IT/IS
provider, resulting in a seven-year contract and immediate
cost-savings of 50% in operating costs against a budget of
£40m. Devised and instituted a new governance regime that
reflected increased public and parliamentary accountability.
Oversaw and participated in the management of all projects,
chairing some Project Boards or acting as Senior Technical
Adviser using PRINCE methodology and terminology.
1990 - 1994
Deputy Director of Logistic Information Systems (Army)
Formulated IT
strategy for Army logistics and for all financial forecasting
and financial management of a £30m budget. Led 12-month
strategic study into formation of a new Army Logistic
Information Systems Agency. Negotiated with Cabinet Office and
Treasury at Ministerial level. Frequent and regular contact with
National Audit Office. Responsible for preparation and
submission of all Agency formation documents, charters and
corporate plans, including submission to House of Commons, as
well as the drafting of Parliamentary Questions for the launch.
All achieved within the timescale and within budget. Promoted to
the rank of Brigadier. Oversaw all projects.
1985 - 1990
Staff Officer in UK Ministry of Defence
Successfully held
a range of senior appointments with responsibility for the
formulation of policy for the Army’s Computer and Information
Systems. Work included management of major budgetary spend of
£250m and associated programme construction. Attended as
Project Board member of many major projects. Was formal Project
Manager for the design and establishment of a new Army CIS
Interoperability Agency that included major building and
computer aspects. |
