[snip].
Internet and
mobile content provider.
DBA and
Systems Manager
[snip]
provides Web, Mobile and Voice technologies to a variety of
clients with offices in the UK, Chile and Hong Kong, and
provides content to companies all over the world. The
technology platforms provide mobile and sms, web and voice
content to a number of industries, including TV, sport and adult
& online gambling. I was also responsible for the maintenance
of the MySQL databases for Netbanx, the UK’s largest independent
online credit card transaction processing company prior to its
sale in November 2005, with in excess of 13 million records.
I have been
working in a dual capacity as DBA, looking after the variety of
systems running on DB2, Oracle, MySQL and SQL Server, and
manager of the internal systems. I’ve been required to set up
and manage a number of database systems including replication
and datacopy between different platforms. I’ve also been
required to clone Oracle databases, and perform installs from
the ground up. I’m experienced in such technologies as imp/exp,
SQL*Loader, cold backups and database cloning. I’ve installed
and used statspack for monitoring and analysis of database
performance, and have a good understanding of the underlying
architecture of the Oracle system. I’ve recently been one of the
technical leads in a migration and infrastructure upgrade of our
CMS website running Mediasurface on Oracle 9i. I’m seeking a new
role as [snip] are currently making a round of redundancies.

to perform consultancy on a number of projects, including
improving the security of the Food Standards Agency website
which was based on mediasurface, and designing and architecting
an intranet and website using Sharepoint and CMS Server for
Hutchesons Grammar, Glasgow’s largest private school.
I also
project managed [snip]’s main project for their largest client, for
whom we ran a remote data collection system using PDA units in
the field, running a bespoke application for data collection. I
managed the team in charge of supporting the hardware and
software, as well as auditing and controlling stock of the PDA
units and accessories. I was involved in the initial
consultation with the Scottish Criminal Records Bureau, to
design and build a content managed intranet system.
In November
2004, [snip] was put up for sale so I felt it was the right time to
further my career.
