I have been a computer user since 1982, when I was programming in Sinclair ZX Spectrum's assembly language to develop an analysis of projectile motion application to support my final assignment in physics and gain a Diploma in mathematics and IT. After 11 years of commercial experience, I have a very wide span skill-set in systems design and development on Windows and Linux platforms. Majority of my roles were as a consultant on client sites where I have developed excellent technical and customer facing skills. Last 2 years I have been managing a small consultancy and offshore development company achieving project planning and management skills. I am proficient in all Microsoft operating systems and server applications. I have recently specialised in migrating companies from Windows NT 4 system to Small business Server 2003 including Exchange 5.5 accounts migration to Exchange 2003.

July 2004 – October 2004         Network consolidation

National Design Consultancy (www.ndc-uk.co.uk) 

• NDC is nationwide company with offices in London, Leeds, Bristol, Edinburgh, Manchester and Birmingham. Each office had two servers (new server recently installed) and requirement was to decommission the old server and migrate remaining data and services to the new server. The following task were performed for each office:
  • Office network IT infrastructure overview and health check has been performed to record all aspects of the office network
  • Active Directory DNS configuration problem has been fixed and all workstations in the office were updated to the new network configuration
  • Both servers were updated to latest operating system service packs to allow managed removal of the old server form the active directory domain
  • All office printers and plotters have been installed on the new server using latest manufacturers printer drivers
  • All other necessary network services  (DHCP) have been moved from the old to the new Dell server
  • Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition v9  has been deployed as a managed antivirus solution for the offices
  • Leeds and Manchester office were connected with VPN tunnel for secure file exchange between the offices using Draytek Vigor 2600 routers

June 2004 – July 2004              Office network reconfiguration

• Windows 2003 Server and Windows XP desktops in educational environment were students use roaming profiles to login to any available workstation. A third party had installed Desktop Authority Interactive management and remote control solution from ScriptLogic for roaming profiles and system polices management. The solution failed to provide stable network environment and I reconfigured the network with minimal interruption in daily colleague operation:
  • Comprehensive planning and strategy performed for reconfiguration with minimal impact to companies business
  • Desktop Authority solution replaced with native Microsoft Windows Group Policy management
  • Workstation load images created using Symantec Ghost 2003 for automated installs

TrackSecure will also provide geozoning capabilities, so that alerts can be sent whenever a vehicle enters or leaves a geographical area defined using a graphical interface

July 2000 – Nov 2000                Windows 2000 professional worldwide rollout

·         Developed a script (VBScript), which uses ADSI interface to connect to Active Directory (AD) in order to detect network connectivity, discover logged on user's organisational unit and current site. The company has 34 offices worldwide, script is essential to properly configure user’s notebooks to use PC-DOC, and company’s bespoke applications at any location.

·         Produced a VB application, which crawls, zips and saves all necessary files from old Win95 workstations and then restores it on the new Windows 2000 clients. The application was a prerequisite for oncoming worldwide rollout of Windows 2000.

·         Developed a universal Microsoft Word template (VBA), which queries the Active Directory in order to adjust the address in the document footer to reflect the user's local office

·         QA of VBScripts (ADSI interface – various tasks for AD management) developed by other scripters.

·         Active Directory Group Policy (GPO) used to consolidate the corporate network. Features: Software Installation (automated distribution of client applications), folder redirection (removed ‘My Documents’ folder from the roaming profile for quicker logon), offline folders (enables notebook users to work on their documents while away from the office)

·         Developed simple WinBatch application, which provided single click connection to the office network for laptop users when working from home. The application dials-up to Internet, connects PPTP VPN and starts Terminal server session.

·         Designed and rolled out fully automated (unattended) build of company’s standard desktops (Dell T600) and laptops (Toshiba Protégé 3110CT and Sony VIAO) in order to standardise very diverse clients base. The base build consists of Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, Microsoft Office 2000 premium, Acrobat Reader 4.0, WinZip 8.0 and Micro Trend antivirus client.

·         Configured and installed company’s web infrastructure based on IBM Netfinity 5500/7000 servers (2  IIS4 web servers and 2 SQL 7.0 servers at COLT data centre). Responsible for implementation of new web site versions (change control, COM+ components management), proper functioning of the financial data feed and liaison with developers to install their code on the servers 

Oct 1998 – Jan 2000                 Systems Analyst

·         Designed automated application scripting process using WinBatch and VB for Applications. The application controls all aspects of applications scripting process. It improved the application packages development productivity by reducing manual work from the application scripters.

·         Part of the team in developing Microsoft Access 97 application (VBA project) for management of  application scripts (finding and removing any conflicts among the packages)

·         Responsible for training of new scripting consultants and for the assistance in developing major software release packages to Esso corporate definitions and standards.

·         Part of the team in worldwide rollout of Internet Explorer 4.02 using WinBatch and IE Admin Kit

·         Provided 3rd Level Support (NT4 and Win95 Workstations).

·         Quality Assurance of application scripts developed by other affiliates.

·         Maintenance and troubleshooting of the development network: 2 NT 4.0 and 2 NT 3.51 servers. 

May 1998 – Sep 1998                Microsoft Office 97 rollout

·         Designed fully automated Microsoft Office 4.2 upgrade to Office 97 to 400 Win95 workstations. Project involved migrating users working environment (custom-made AutoText entries, toolbars and macros) using VBA macros when upgrading to newer version of MS Office.  

 ·         Part of the team in upgrading the Windows for Workgroups network to NT 3.51 (later NT4) network with Windows 95 clients. Company had 300 workstations in two sites connected via 1Mb WAN link.

·         Network administration, 2nd and 3rd level support 

·         Technical support, with a team of 10, on UNIX (VAX System) terminals to the student body. Involved in UNIX server maintenance and troubleshooting.
