I am currently nearing the end of my current contract with BT, working in the BT Retail team based in Newcastle Centre.

The main areas of my responsibility are working on a new BT converged product which was launched in January to the home consumer market.

Test Voice over IP network connections, GSM network testing.

Install Wireless test bed networks, test all forms of wireless connectivity and systems, using all Microsoft operating systems and technologies test BT’s broadband networks for errors using Woosh testing. Install Wireless routers and networks, error checking all steps of the installation.

Document steps of installations

Produce user manuals on all tested networks for home consumer and business users

3rd line support.

Work closely with the project manager and design team, relaying faults and errors found, suggesting and applying fixes.

Discuss with project team for product rollout and support BT’s own installation and computer support centres on errors, faults and solutions.

I am currently studying to gain my Prince2 Practitioner and Foundation qualifications and CCNA.

Previously I was employed by a Marine Electronics/ Engineering and satellite telecommunications company, as the IT and Communications manager, working on all aspects of the company IT systems and infrastructure.

My main responsibilities were to ensure the smooth running of the 24hr remote access system to sea going vessels, manage the service help desk and arrange service engineer visits to repair all aspects of ships communications/ guidance and security systems

I was  responsible for eight field service engineers and two internal IT support staff.

Working as part of the sales support team I have worked on tenders for BP, Shell, Northern Marine Management, Lomar Shipping and Zodiac Maritime, which included designing onboard network solutions for Ships business, full design and implementation LAN and WAN access via On board Satellite communication systems. Configure routers both ship side and shore side to allow seamless communications, with sales values of over £4 million pounds.

I designed and specified a Email transfer system to use on low speed satellite communication terminals which is currently being used by over 400 ships. Working closely with the software programmers I have designed and implemented a ships crew email and telephone system and a least cost routing program which allows the vessel to cut communications cost and maximise throughput of data.

Installation/ administration and support of windows 2000/2003 servers, Exchange 2000/ 2003, SQL 2000 server and Citrix Metaframe systems are all used on a daily basis and supported by the internal IT Team.

Fully responsible for the IT budget and spend, along with procurement of equipment.

In the role I managed 8 field based engineers arranging services of ships systems all over the world as well as in the UK.

Due to a merger with an overseas satellite telecoms company the IT managers position was made redundant.

I am looking for a similar role which will give me a new challenge in my career with further prospects of rising within the company. I am a hard working individual who works well under pressure. I would be a valuable asset to any future employer who is looking for a team member or an individual to maintain or grow the company IT infrastructure.
