I currently manage a
small systems development section of [snip] which is the UK
sales arm of the [snip] – a major global automotive OEM. Having
been at [snip] for a little over ten years I’m now looking for
fresh opportunities. I’m comfortable with managerial and
technical roles and am looking for positions primarily in the
West Midlands/Shropshire but also in the North West. I’d
particularly be interested in roles that utilise my UNIX or CAD
administration skills rather than my CAD application skills.

The following represents
only my main projects undertaken and not day to day management
and administrative tasks.
2007
-
SharePoint sites delivered to date
include a small company portal, department sites for ISD,
AirCon and EMS as well as dedicated areas for sharing
information between [snip] offices in Telford, Germany,
Sweden and Japan.

Successful ISO27001 re-audit of Hatfield
achieved.
2006
-
Assisted with the preparation for the
initial ISO27001 (Information Security Management – was ISO
17799) audit that resulted in successful accreditation for
our head office at Hatfield (1st UK automotive
supplier to achieve). As well as assisting in the policy
creation and the supporting risk assessment register, the
training of several auditees was undertook in preparation
for the audit as well as arranging the audit visits from
BSI. Took on the same roll for a second audit later in the
year directed at our Coventry office with the same result.

Building on activities over the last two
years Windows SharePoint Services was installed on a
dedicated system (two Proliant DL360 G4’s running as a
SharePoint/SQL group) that is intended to bridge the gaps
between the disparate systems at DSUK as well as provide a
user customisable collaborative environment that will
eventually provide the framework for a company wide
intranet.

Managed the development of a Lotus Notes
document library with workflow, automation and subscription
used by a global sales group for one of our major customers.
2005
-
Managed several company wide projects
that built upon the recommendations of the EDM report
delivered last year. Almost exclusively these projects
involve the use of VBA automation and application linking in
Microsoft office. The systems successfully delivered include
an employee absence control system for authorising holidays
and sickness etc, a travel booking system, a purchase order
system and a market analysis tool for tracking price trends
in the alternator market.

Managed the development of an Extranet
for use with several of our large customers. Using SSL
technology within Lotus Domino, this will enable customers
and internal staff to collaborate on projects using common
data and work areas.

Managed installation of SunFire V240 rack
mounted server to replace the ageing E450 CADserver.

Managed installation of new Ford C3PNG
environment (CATIA V5/TeamCentre Engineering environment).
-
Working as a member of a team of people
aiming towards the eventual accreditation to BS7799
(ISO17799) in March 2006.

Managed the development of a HR
recruitment database in Lotus Notes.

Managed the provision of a HR intranet
using Infosys.

Finalised Electronic Document Management
investigation and submitted a report on the findings to the
IT team and the Network Strategy Working Group.

Presentation on suggested future
direction of Electronic Document Management at [snip] given
to the Network Strategy Working Group.
2003

Managed further development of IT
infrastructure in the new building including provision of
new network segments.

The installation of a 12cpu Linux cluster
was managed to serve as the new Computational Fluid Dynamics
facility.

Carried out a major investigation into
document management systems in general and the feasibility
of their application at [snip].

Invited to become a member of the Society
of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) E-Business
Committee.
2002
-
Due to continued increase in business a
large expansion of the Coventry office was planned for this
year along with a 10 year long lease of a nearby office
building. Responsible for the coordination of the ISD team
in delivering the telecom and networking requirements of
this expansion. To meet the requirements of this project and
my management obligations, the day to day running of the
CAD/CAE area was passed to the CAD Specialist, however I
retained overall responsibility and continued to manage him.
2001
-
Installed EAI Vismockup software and
VisNetWork web software running on Apatche to enable
visualisation of CAD data on the PC network thereby allowing
non-CAD users to view and interact with CAD data.

Managed upgrade of EngDat software to
DAXWARE Communicator 2000 – web based application.
-
Restructured data backup operation from
an outdated 4mm/8mm DAT system using operating system
commands (tar, ufsdump. cpio, dd etc) to a robotic library
based DLT system driven by network backup software (NetVault).
-
I developed a disaster recovery strategy
that involved the specifying of hardware items on DR
contract, writing of procedures to replicate [snip] CAD and
PC systems on remote site and finally testing of procedure
on NDR equipment on remote site.

Managed upgrade of c3p software (7.1)
-
Recruited replacement CAD Specialist
(previous specialist left company).
-
Assisted in the recruitment of a CFD
engineer.

Became a member of the Network Strategy
Working Group, set up as a cross discipline team to develop
ways of using IT infrastructure to an advantage. Over it’s 4
year history it was responsible for coordinating a complete
restructuring of the network data storage areas and a
substantial rework of the policies and procedures that
governed e-business.
2000
-
Completed investigation into IMI - Ideas
MetaPhase Interface- the connection into Fords Enterprise
wide EDM system and managed its installation.
-
Installed an 8 CPU computational fluid
dynamics facility to meet the needs of new business. System
that comprised of a cluster of single and dual processor
Ultra60’s, STAR-HPC CFD software, ICEMTetra meshing software
with direct interfaces into the CATIA and I-Deas CAD
systems.
-
Installed two additional I-Deas seats
(ULTRA 60’s) and one additional CATIA seat to meet increased
need of engineering departments. Migrated existing CATIA
seat from RS6000 to Sun Ultra 60.

Managed upgrades of c3p software (6.1,
6.2).
-
Completed upgrade of Honda and Rover
CATIA V4 environment to reflect the customers new
requirements. In both cases this was a major revision
upgrade of software.

Promoted to Assistant manager of ISD
answering to ISD manager based in the head office at
Hatfield. Fully responsible for the Coventry team comprising
of 4 people (PC and networking Specialist, CAD specialist,
AS400 technical specialist and PC technical specialist)
