Current Position: Engineering and Development Manager ISD

The following represents only my main projects undertaken and not day to day management and administrative tasks.

2007

  • SharePoint sites delivered to date include a small company portal, department sites for ISD, AirCon and EMS as well as dedicated areas for sharing information between [snip] offices in Telford, Germany, Sweden and Japan.
  • Successful ISO27001 re-audit of Hatfield achieved.

2006

  • Assisted with the preparation for the initial ISO27001 (Information Security Management – was ISO 17799) audit that resulted in successful accreditation for our head office at Hatfield (1st UK automotive supplier to achieve). As well as assisting in the policy creation and the supporting risk assessment register, the training of several auditees was undertook in preparation for the audit as well as arranging the audit visits from BSI. Took on the same roll for a second audit later in the year directed at our Coventry office with the same result.
  • Building on activities over the last two years Windows SharePoint Services was installed on a dedicated system (two Proliant DL360 G4’s running as a SharePoint/SQL group) that is intended to bridge the gaps between the disparate systems at DSUK as well as provide a user customisable collaborative environment that will eventually provide the framework for a company wide intranet.
  • Managed the development of a Lotus Notes document library with workflow, automation and subscription used by a global sales group for one of our major customers.

2005

  • Managed several company wide projects that built upon the recommendations of the EDM report delivered last year. Almost exclusively these projects involve the use of VBA automation and application linking in Microsoft office. The systems successfully delivered include an employee absence control system for authorising holidays and sickness etc, a travel booking system, a purchase order system and a market analysis tool for tracking price trends in the alternator market.
  • Managed the development of an Extranet for use with several of our large customers. Using SSL technology within Lotus Domino, this will enable customers and internal staff to collaborate on projects using common data and work areas.
  • Managed installation of SunFire V240 rack mounted server to  replace the ageing E450 CADserver.
  • Managed installation of new Ford C3PNG environment (CATIA V5/TeamCentre Engineering environment).
  • Working as a member of a team of people aiming towards the eventual accreditation to BS7799 (ISO17799) in March 2006.
  • Managed the development of a HR recruitment database in Lotus Notes.
  • Managed the provision of a HR intranet using Infosys.

2004

  • Presentation on suggested future direction of Electronic Document Management at [snip] given to the Network Strategy Working Group.

2003

  • Managed further development of IT infrastructure in the new building including provision of new network segments.
  • The installation of a 12cpu Linux cluster was managed to serve as the new Computational Fluid Dynamics facility.
  • Carried out a major investigation into document management systems in general and the feasibility of their application at [snip].
  • Invited to become a member of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) E-Business Committee.

2002

  • Due to continued increase in business a large expansion of the Coventry office was planned for this year along with a 10 year long lease of a nearby office building. Responsible for the coordination of the ISD team in delivering the telecom and networking requirements of this expansion. To meet the requirements of this project and my management obligations, the day to day running of the CAD/CAE area was passed to the CAD Specialist, however I retained overall responsibility and continued to manage him.

2001

  • Installed EAI Vismockup software and VisNetWork web software running on Apatche to enable visualisation of CAD data on the PC network thereby allowing non-CAD users to view and interact with CAD data.
  • Managed upgrade of EngDat software to DAXWARE Communicator 2000 – web based application.
  • Restructured data backup operation from an outdated 4mm/8mm DAT system using operating system commands (tar, ufsdump. cpio, dd etc) to a robotic library based DLT system driven by network backup software (NetVault).
  • I developed a disaster recovery strategy that involved the specifying of hardware items on DR contract, writing of procedures to replicate [snip] CAD and PC systems on remote site and finally testing of procedure on NDR equipment on remote site.
  • Managed upgrade of c3p software (7.1)
  • Recruited replacement CAD Specialist (previous specialist left company).
  • Assisted in the recruitment of a CFD engineer.
  • Became a member of the Network Strategy Working Group, set up as a cross discipline team to develop ways of using IT infrastructure to an advantage.
