Experience

December 2003 – Present         [snip]    Glasgow

IT Consultant (Developer)

This position is my first role as a self employed IT Consultant and involves me creating, project managing, and supporting database systems for various internal departments and external areas within the [snip] and for some of our 3rd party customers. I work within the Management Information department so I do get an insight into the products offered by this division of [snip] namely credit cards and loans. As part of the small MI team I also help produce the MI reporting on a daily basis as well as design many of the systems that produce the reporting.

Systems are developed using Access 97/2002 and SQL Server 2000.

I have been involved in each of these projects throughout the full development life cycle, from sitting with the customers to define their requirements to training and continued support of the systems.

July 2000 -  December 2003      [snip]                      Edinburgh

IT Asset Management

IT Asset Analyst

This position involves administering all IT and telecomms assets within the company. This includes processing customer requests for software, PCs, servers and telephony equipment and also raising jobs for analysts to install them. We are involved from the initial request for the asset, through ordering from a supplier, to the eventual installation. Software licensing and maintenance of both software and hardware assets is also handled by our department.

Half of my work is also spent developing and supporting the companies Asset Inventory MS Access database. This database stores information on jobs raised for analysts, orders sent to suppliers and also an extensive asset inventory. The upkeep of this database has required me to add extra functionality when required and also keep it running smoothly for the large number of people in IT Service Management that use it.

June 2000- July 2000             Scottish Power                              Glasgow

Developer (Contractor)

This position involved writing Visual Basic programs to help bring data from one mainframe system to another. This was done by using OLE commands in the VB applications to copy information from mainframe screens into an Access database which then used this info to paste into another mainframe session.

May 2000 – June 2000   United Distillers & Vintners                   Glasgow

IT Support (Contractor)

This position mainly involves the support of a number of UDV’s Oracle based systems. Much of my work is checking that data is transferring between the various systems correctly and that the data being entered is valid.

As it is an Oracle system, some of my work involves the use of SQL through Oracle’s SQL Plus.

June ’99 – Dec ’99         Buchanan Clark + Wells plc.                  Glasgow

Developer

Developed and maintained applications using Access, Visual Basic and SQL Server 7. Involved at the beginning of the development life cycle by designing Entity Relationships Diagrams, table structures and other forms of documentation. As I designed and implemented the systems, I also documented training manuals for their use. I was also involved in consulting clients on how they wanted the system to look, constant client interaction after application was completed. Used VB Front End for some applications, making use of ADO code rather than ADO controls. Attended 2 Microsoft SQL Server 7 courses – SQL Server Design and SQL Server Admin.

I was also responsible for allowing data to be imported from a clients AS400 system onto to our SQL Server. This involved a great deal of data alteration using SQL queries.
