I’m qualified to MCSE level in Microsoft products and CCA level in Citrix and have experience at several contracts with both.   • Setting up a link between two unconnected networks so that the staff half remained safe but also had full access to the student side.
  • Implementing various projects including installing wireless access points across the school so all classrooms could access the network as well as managing encryption.
  • Documenting the network from scratch for the preparation of taking on a permanent member of staff to fill the position. This included looking into the cost upgrading the phone system from analogue to IP.
  • Implementing a centralised backup policy using Vertitas Backup Exec to backup all home drives and critical information across the whole network.
  • Configuration of the physical network to centralise support.
  • Rebuild of main server after power cut including installation and setting up of active directory and clustering.
  • Installing firewall software (Smoothwall guardian 4.0) and linking to Active Directory.
  • Server performance monitoring and upgrades where needed including faster network cards for video streaming, memory upgrades and role moving on over utilized servers
  • Deploying various student software via MSI’s using Wise Studio
  • Installation and support of print servers around the school.
  • Logon scripts for students and staff to map home drives and shared locations for work
  • Locking down student pc’s via group policy to limit access and potential damage

Second contract at the solicitors (see Mar ’03 to Apr ’04 below for more details of work done here) - on a three month support basis while permanent members of the IT Team where involved in project work. Much of the support work was covering systems installed during first contract there. Main responsibilities included desktop and server support, deploying new pc’s via RIS, backups via backup exec and helping in deployment of new project software via sms. Also, supporting user account setup and management through active directory.

Aided in the colleges migration from Novell 4.12 to Windows 2000. This has included setting up a test bed of machines to check performance and reliability on a variety of different machines with a wide degree of specifications, as well as testing a possible move to using Terminal Server in a section of the College. Prior to this I also supported a lab of Windows NT Servers and Workstations for Microsoft training courses held on a regular basis during the year, and supported a section of 120 computers in the Software Engineering department within the College’s main campus.

Also aided in the setting up and supporting of 5 Learn-direct sites through the College including upgrading the servers and desktops to Windows 2000 throughout, proxy issues, physical/software problems and setting up for MOUS testing.
