Career Details:
Jan'06-present [snip]:
Engaged as Support Engineer by a provider of control room
software for the emergency services. The system I support is
extremely complex, involving analogue and digital radio,
telephony and CCTV. It runs on top of Windows 2000/2003 Server
and uses IIS, Active Directory and SQL. I support the operating
system, bespoke software, the server hardware and associated
cabling and equipment. I am specifically responsible for
supporting Northamptonshire [snip], Devon & Cornwall [snip], the
Isle of Man Emergency Services and Hampshire [snip]. I do this
remotely and will also visit the customer when required, and I
also take part in our of hours support. I hold security
clearance to SC level including Non [snip] Personnel Vetting,
PNC check, Counter Terrorist Check and financial background
checks.
Jul'04-Aug'05 [snip]:
Engaged on a renewable contract basis as PC Network Support
Specialist for a regional [snip] force providing telephone,
remote access and on site support to users for PC desktop
systems and network infrastructure covering hardware, operating
systems and applications. In my hardware role I undertook fault
finding on Dell desktop and laptop PCs. I also undertook PC
relocation and patch panel work. I undertook basic repair of
printers.
In my operating system support role I undertook installation,
upgrade/patching, configuration, problem solving, and some
systems administration.
In my application support role I installed, configured, upgraded
and problem solved for MS Office 2003 and a wide range of
specialist [snip] applications. I supported remote access via
VPN with two-factor authentication. I held security clearance
for the above work.
During the above period of employment, I had a brief break
between contracts and worked for six weeks at [snip] undertaking
PC desktop support for Windows XP based systems, monitoring of
servers and some VB scripting.
Reason for leaving: contract successfully completed.
May'02-May'04 [snip]:
Engaged by this computer support outsourcing company as
Technical Support Analyst, seconded to [snip] providing internal
telephone and email support to users for hardware, operating
systems and applications relating to desktop PC systems in an NT
Server environment. I taught a Microsoft Windows XP course
internally. I supported Dell desktop PCs and laptop PCs running
Windows NT 4.0 Workstation, Windows 2000 Professional and
Windows XP Professional. I supported all aspects of PC use
including remote dial in, VPN, MS Office, email, web access,
networking problems, printing problems, drivers and server
connectivity. I undertook basic NT Server problem solving but
not server problem rectification. I undertook Windows Registry
editing to solve spyware problems and used Norton anti virus on
desktop systems. All these tasks were subject to strict Service
Level Agreements. I held security clearance to BC level during
this period.
Reason for leaving: commuting expenses.
Jun'98-Apr'02 [snip]:
Engaged by this computer manufacturer/retailer as PC Field
Service Engineer undertaking warranty fault finding/repair and
problem solving for the Evesham range of desktop PCs and Intel
servers. Operating systems supported included Windows 98,
Windows Me, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows NT 4.0
Workstation and Windows NT 4.0 Server working in domestic, local
government and commercial environments across the East Midlands
and East Anglia. I provided in depth operating system support
for desktop PC systems including manipulation of DirectX,
drivers and Windows Registry.
Reason for leaving: sought new challenge.
Jan'95-Jun'98 [snip]:
Engaged by this third party computer maintenance company as PC
Field Service Engineer undertaking fault finding and repair to
board swap level for desktop PCs plus operating systems problem
solving for Windows 95 and Windows 98 based PCs (mainly for
Evesham). Geographical area covered was the Midlands and East
Anglia.
Reason for leaving: imminent company takeover and consequent
insecure future.
