[snip] are a software house whose niche is in providing  business driven solutions for the Insurance Sector.

Software Developer / Team Leader

Contracted to oversee the migration of existing application developed in VB 6.0 to .NET platform. A bespoke ERP software for [snip],a service driven Insurance Company.

The product was comprised of the following core modules;

Security Module

Was solely responsible developing a security module whose specifications was that it should be role based, that users and their respective user role be defined and that permissions be mapped to the relevant user. My tasks was as follows;

  • Translate Gap Analysis document and produce Technical Workflow Process showing the logical flow of the Business process.
  • Design and construct the respective tables to hold the information of users, users groups and permissions. Using SQL Server 2005 running on Windows Server 2003 SP1.
  • Construct stored procedures using T-SQL to perform INSERT, SELECT, UPDATE, DELETE functions within the Data Access Layer (DAL). Using SQL Server 2005 running on Windows Server 2003 SP1
  • Construct methods within the middle–tier to channed calls from the Front-end to the database and be able to intelligently know which users had been given what level of access permissions in the system .Using  VB.NET, .NET 2.0 Framework, COM+,ADO
  • Designed user friendly forms and produce code to enable the administrator to define the roles, capture user profiles and map the respective roles to the users of the system. Using VB6.0,VB.NET
CRM Module

An already existing module i was responsible in upgrading and integrating  functionality to capture debtors information. My tasks were as follows.

  • Translate the Gap Analysis document and producing a Technical Workflow Process showing the logical flow of the Business process. Using OO methodology Use Cases and UML.
  • Lead a team of 3 to migrate the entire module to .NET and bug testing. Using VB.NET,.NET Framework 2.0,SQL Server 2005, Windows 2003 Service SP1
  • Design and construct the respective tables to hold the debtor information. Using SQL Server 2005 running on Windows Server 2003 SP1.

·         Construct stored procedures using T-SQL with joins to enable debtors to be captured. Using SQL Server 2005

  • Produce code for methods within the middle–tier to channed calls from the Front-end to the database and be able to intelligently prompt the user to define debtor depending with the specific business rule.Using  VB.NET, .NET 2.0 Framework, COM+,ADO

  • Design the user friendly forms to promp the user to capture the debtors using VB.NET

Medical Module

An already existing module written in VB 6.0.This being a very core module where claims were captured and validated and authorised against the individual member balance. My tasks were as follows;

  • Translate the Gap Analysis document and producing with a Migration Plan as to how this was to be achieved.
  • Lead a team of 3 to migrate the entire module to .NET and bug testing. Using VB.NET,.NET Framework 2.0,SQL Server 2005, Windows 2003 Service SP1
  • Optimise Queries, Cursors and User Functions to enhance the overall performance of the module Using SQL Server 2005
  • Redesign the visual basic forms to enhance the look and feel of the module and make it more user friendly. Using VB.NET, VB6.0
  • Make adjustment within the middle- tier component of the module to cater for changes of business rules as to how claims are captured and validated. Using VB.NET, COM +, ADO
  • Redesign the reports to cater for customization changes as specified in the Gap Analysis Document. Using Crystal Reports 10.0

 Financial Management Module

A brand new requirement needed by the client, I was solely responsible in coming up with the critical module that would enable the Client to monitor financial transactions. My tasks were as follows;

  • Gather requirements from the Client  and translate this to a Technical Workflow Process showing the logical flow of the business process. Using OO Methodology Use Cases and UML.
  • Design and construct database tables as part of the Data Access Layer.Using  SQL Server 2005 , Windows 2003 Service SP1
  • Construct stored procedures using T-SQL for data manipulation within the database. Using  SQL Server 2005 , Windows 2003 Service SP1
  • Delink this module from medical while at the same time intergrating the cheque printing functionality within FMS that was originally part of the medical module.This was a complex task as the architectural design had to be reviewed and logic separated in the middle tier where business rules resided. Using VB.NET, .NET Framework 2.0 , ADO
  • Design menu items and user friendly forms for the Client to pass required input parameters. Using VB.NET
  • Designing up reports such as debtor statements and cashbook to enable the Finance Departments be able to monitor transactions. Using Crytal Reports 10.0
  • Provided End User Training to the Finance Departments through walkthroughs and PowerPoint Presentations.

Achievements:

  • The Financial Management System has enabled the Client to be able to monitor transactions in such a way that payments are authorised within the medical module and debtors assigned. This has made it very easy for Finance to quickly generate reports upon payment of cheques.
