The original brief was to fix system performance problems that
were occurring on a regular basis, particularly around the
month-end reporting period. My success in this area led to
ongoing contract extensions to continue the work and perform
other additional duties. I was also sent as a trouble-shooter
and adviser to the companies DBA team in Chicago.

Worked in a team of twelve DBA's. Responsibilities were
primarily for the establishment of databases within the Network
Services division, plus support for the prepay mobile service.
The production databases were 24x7 and highly available. They
ranged in size from 4GB to 600GB. Applications were a mixture
of 3rd party and in-house developed client/server systems.

systems with Oracle Financials. Initially, this was a part-time
role in parallel with my other duties, but soon grew to be a
full-time role in its own right.

Created European Production Reporting system. This was a PC
application that I had to install at 13 sites throughout
Europe. The information was gathered into an EIS system for the
Company Directors.

Before changing to a career in Computing I worked as a Financial
Accountant, being a part-qualified Certified Accountant, and a
qualified Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians (MAAT).
