Job Profile of
Senior VR Applications Developer:
To work as part of a
team to maintain and develop the Virtual Reality Centre at the
[snip], developing work worthy of the VR Centre portfolio and
ensuring a high quality profile. To act as a Project Leader as
and when required, mentoring, supervising, and taking
responsibility for team members. Take responsibility in
developing applications to the client brief, adding
functionality in the most appropriate and cost effective way
whilst ensuring a professional quality in the work. Liaise with
the Management Team and clients, setting and agreeing key stages
in projects, agreeing targets, and timetabling meetings for the
discussion of said stages and targets. Delivering the project to
agreed deadlines, and producing supporting documentation. Manage
the preparation of workshops, seminars, and training to
demonstrate case studies to internal and external
visitors/application users, and prepare reports.
Personal Profile:
At the [snip] I
proved myself as a hardworking team member of the VR Centre and
the School of Computing. On all projects I’ve been allowed to
take responsibility over major areas unsupervised, and on many
occasions have been the Lead Developer. As a Senior Developer I
expected responsibility, whether as a member of a team or as a
project leader. Unfortunately, although the quality of work
capable by teams was very high and apparent in all projects, the
VRC at Teesside had a necessary minimalist approach to most
projects that were created for clients, doing enough to meet
their needs and more than satisfying their expectations which
were mostly functional in nature not creative. I prefer to be
involved in projects that require high standards, and involve a
detailed, functional, and creative approach. This means that I
am constantly learning more skills, as well as improving on
existing ones.
Although the VRC has
been a good proving ground I would like to expand on my
knowledge, and take my skills and expectations into a new post
in 3D Visualisation or Video Games, and having worked at the VR
Centre as a Senior VR Applications Developer I believe I have
more than the basic skills required. I am, though, willing to
learn and develop my skills to meet the requirements of the new
post, and also willing to relocate to wherever the job takes me.
In the meantime I am also willing to take on any other related
job to pursue my career expectations.
Skills Profile:
ð Software
& Hardware Skills – Adept in the use of 3Ds Max (4
yrs), Adobe Photoshop (10 yrs), Adobe Premiere (4 yrs),
Softimage 3|D (18 months), MultiGen Creator (3 yrs), Adobe
Encore DVD (9 months), and Microsoft Project (1 yr), Freeway 3.5
(5 months on Apple Mac), familiar with AutoCAD LT 2000i. I have
frequently used DV Cams and DigiCams to acquire footage and
images, driven a Hemispherium, assembled and used a video
editing suite, and, with a little assistance, built my own PC.
I am quick to learn new software and hardware skills when
required, and regularly purchase Micromart magazine.
ð VR
Projects – In 5+ years I have been involved in over 40
projects both for commercial and funded work that is of a very
high profile. VR models and software packages for educational,
commercial, promotional and publicity purposes include:
Simulations, Marketing Tools, Regeneration Projects, and
Heritage Work.
ð
Commercial Media Production – Have produced materials to
support marketing and commercial objectives by the creation of
still images, CD packages, and Video Tapes for presentations.
ð
Technical Mentoring – My software skills have developed such
that I am able to impart knowledge to other members of a team on
image manipulation and modelling techniques.
ð Project
Planning – This includes setting project tasks and
prioritising them on a day-to-day and weekly basis as well as
for the duration of a project. The most common form of time
management is to make notes or create reports during the project
from regularly testing the integrity of the project.
ð Client
Relationships – My relationships with clients are always
cordial, and have negotiated the requirements of a project, its
limitations, and possible future changes. With a greater client
understanding of VR this helps in ascertaining client needs, and
makes chasing materials that the client required to supply an
easier job.
ð
Chairmanship – As Chairman of the [snip] at the VRC I have been involved in overseeing the
implementation of a database of resources including models,
textures, program codes etc, and re-designing the Project Report
Form (PRF) with the DRL in mind. I worked closely with the
Quality Manager to incorporate the DRL and the PRF into the QMS
(BS EN ISO 9001:2000).
ð Internal
Workshops/Training (in chronological order) – Outlook
Foundation, Customer Service, Video Editing, Project Management,
Coaching & Mentoring Skills, Equality & Diversity Training,
Supervisory Skills, Time Management, Practical Techniques for
Continuous Improvement, Using Emotional Intelligence, Feedback
for Supervision, Negotiation Skills, Delegation Skills, Stress
Management, Digital Imaging, 3D Modelling for Games, Macromedia
DreamWeaver MX 2004.
