January 2002 –
Present Independent Consultant
From May 2005, I was engaged by [snip] to act
as a consultant to their business process redesign project. My
first responsibility was to identify the business needs,
benefits together with the required software solution (workflow
and document management) and to develop the supporting business
case. The business case was accepted in July 2005 and I then
assumed responsibility for the functional design requirements of
the supporting solutions (Staffware and Tower/Vignette). I also
act as a mentor to the client’s programme manager. The first
phase of the project went live at the end of April 2006 and the
second in June 2007.
From June 2003, I completed a strategic and
feasibility study at [snip] Home Loans to deploy work and
document management and an interactive management system across
the redesigned processes for new business and servicing
transactions. The business case was accepted and the project
began in January 2004 with the selection of AWD as the required
work and document management solutions. Initially, I was
responsible for the project architecture but also assumed the
role of programme manager until January 2005 when the project
went live.
I returned to South Africa in December 2001.
From January 2002 until May 2003, I was responsible for
providing [snip] consulting services to two Cape Town based
companies (– both AWD users). I completed a project to redefine
the design and implementation of the required business processes
and supporting technology that enabled new ways in which
Intermediaries interact with Metropolitan Life through a custom
designed call centre.
May 2000 – December
2001 Principal: [snip].
In May 2000, I
moved to the UK and formed a new company called [snip] Ltd. My
first project was with the [snip] and I was the project manager
responsible for implementing the AWD business processes to
support the Pensions Review Unit call centres in Reading,
Glasgow and Belfast. All of the mainstream processes were
implemented by the end of 2000 and my responsibilities were then
completed.
From February 2001,
I undertook a further project at the [snip] to compare two
in-house developed workflow systems and make recommendations to
their further use. This resulted in a recommendation to replace
both systems with a more suitable proprietary product. This was
a short project lasting some eight weeks.
I then carried out
a strategic analysis to confirm the design of a technical
architecture project from a business perspective to link a
Wealth Management company to a number of fund and product
providers. This project built on New Business processing and
encompassed both the high level design of the business
processes, the supporting technical architecture and the impact
of the changes on the organisation. In addition, additional
opportunities that can be enabled through the technical
architecture were identified and aligned to the competitive
pressures that were likely to emerge in 2002. The design phase
was completed in November 2001.

1987 - February 1992. Manager, [snip] Services Group.
During the first

this end, I formed the Consulting Services Group staffed by
experienced people from IBM and some external consultants.

suit me and decided to make a total career change to data
processing.
