Contract Work Experience (2000 – present)
Enterprise
Applications and Extranet Developments
[snip] – Secure Document
Sharing Intranet (ESHARE)
[snip] wanted a
web-based knowledge centre that could be securely accessed from
across Europe. [snip] developed this using SQL Server,
VB.COM, ASP, and HTML, as well as specifying,
installing and supporting the hardware in Docklands, London.
[snip] - project management and
document sharing (PSHARE)
Wanting to upgrade their secure document
sharing intranet, [snip] retained [snip] to lead his team of
ten developing a sophisticated extranet for project and document
management, built on SharePoint, with many bespoke
ASP.NET pages using SQL Server, and integrating with
Synaptris for reporting.
[snip] – franchise CRM sales management tools (SMT)
This pest control firm based in Bournemouth
wanted to roll out their business model across the country, but
recognised that being able to do that would require a set of
tools enabling field and office based staff within each
franchise to operate their business. [snip] designed and built
this CRM extranet using classic ASP and SQL Server.
A crucial element of this solution was to
enable data capture from the field staff when they were
completing their forms and asking for customer signature. [snip]
researched and found a company with the sole license in the UK
for a uniquely printed paper form combined with a pen that
records and transmits hand-writing over Bluetooth to the
field operative’s GPRS mobile phone. The resulting
vectors are converted into a PNG of the form and interpreted
into XML, which are then automatically imported using a
VB.NET Windows service.
[snip] – pharmaceutical CRM extranet
This pharmaceutical marketing and design
agency wanted an extranet which they could use to manage their
projects, and communicate project status to their clients.
[snip]
designed and led a team of three developing this
using SQL Server, VB.COM,
ASP, and HTML.
[snip] – Licensing Activity Reporting and
Royalty Tracking (LARRTS)
[snip] (IP) required an intranet application for their
licensing officers to plan and track pre-licensing activity for
several patent families. [snip] led and worked with a team of
three to design this project management and document sharing
tool using SQL Server, VB.COM, ASP, and
HTML.
[snip] – Fax document management server
[snip] led and worked in
a team of five, for this dot-com reinsurance exchange,
developing an application to convert paper documents (e.g.
contracts) into a usable format for their online trading
platform. Using packaged software for faxing and
optical character recognition (OCR), [snip] was able to
create a solution controlled by a VB.NET Windows Service
application to accept faxes, interpret a unique reference
number on a cover sheet, convert the fax to a PDF, and
create an XML file containing all relevant information.
[snip] also travelled to Singapore to implement and test another
fax document server installation.
Application Monitor
Recognising an
increasing demand from clients for monitoring transactional
websites, [snip] used his experience in planning and scripting
tests (in a QA role) to design and develop a suite of programs
to run, alert, and report on a range of monitors for websites.
This was developed in VB.NET, SQL Server, XML
and Web Services.
E-Commerce
WebsiteS
ASP.NET ecommerce websites
[snip] led his team redeveloping the various
classic ASP ecommerce websites onto the ASP.NET platform
with SQL Server database, with the aim of having a single
core ecommerce engine, which would then be adapted for each
client through the use of stylesheets and user controls.
The first clients to benefit from this
major upgrade were [snip] and then [snip], who had [snip] redesign the website to incorporate multiple channels and
domains operating off a single website and database.
