OBJECTIVE

Activity: I am looking for a job that will be possibly related to my work experience but this is not essential.  I would consider part time, contracting and permanent positions in my fields of experience: Windows, Linux and telephone equipment. My proactive attitude has secured me employment throughout my working life. I can work as a sole trader, using an umbrella company or in a full employment situation.

Location and Salary: I would consider work based in Docklands, Central London or home based. I would be prepared to relocate or travel outside that area if the salary was above 25 K. In that case if necessary for to comply with maintenance contracts I am prepared to find accommodation close to a customer. I am also able to travel and have done so extensively for many years developing customer facing skills, and working on different types of telecommunications equipment, computers, software and networks.. At present I do part time work and contracts mostly in the City and I would like to get more work locally or a good full time permanent employment.

Transport: Public transport, but if job requires it I may get a car.

Languages: I am bilingual and I speak English and Spanish (some French).

I have a degree in electronic engineering (computers and telecommunications).

SALARY:  Negotiable according to the job. Ideally permanent above 22k and hour rate £13

CHRONOLOGICAL WORK HISTORY:

2003-2005                        Telephone System and Network Administration: Various companies short term work.

At present I am doing temporary contracts and part time jobs for several companies being [snip] the longest and current work: IT/ Telephones Maintenance mainly on Avaya Definity/Audix switchboard and telephone traffic management with Tim Call logger package. Also temporary, self employed or permanent work recently for [snip],  etc, I can provide confidential customer references if required.

I have installed and maintain IT systems for small companies and have set up Exchange 2003 and Windows Server 2003 (Small Business Server), Linux Samba Server, some Allied Tellesyn routers, patch panels, Cat5 wiring,. Maintaining software packages: Callog and Tim call loggers, Emis software for medical practices.

As Network administrator or telephone system administrator. I have to deal with maintaining telephone and internet email services for different client companies with many makes of servers and desktops. My clients or employers are small and medium companies with different types of equipment and operating systems, software, firewalls etc. The media used for networks by my clients are: Cat5 cabling or wireless routers and Lans using in-built cards or USB transceivers.

The equipment I have worked on: Linux Mail Servers, Linux DNS and Gateways, Windows Server 2000 active directory and 2003 which I have administered, and also administered Allied Telesyn Routers.

Regarding telephone systems: administration on Avaya Definity, BT Meridian Norstar, Siemens ISDX: work such as setting up call logging, hunt and pickup groups and other features, and maintaining call loggers  for billing telephone costs.

1998                                 Point of Law in Telecommunications Regulations: During this year  I conducted successfully a judicial review regarding the interpretation of the Wireless and Telecommunications Act 1949 section 5 b and set a precedent for the interpretation of  “message” in telecommunications.

1990-2003                       Senior Engineer, - [snip]: (salary 24,726k + company car),   From March 19th 1990  to August 31st 2003. During most of this period I worked under the Managing Director [snip], now retired.

1. I worked on studies and analysis of telephone traffic, tariffs and performance (call logging). We installed two types of call logger packages: under DOS with Fox databases, and some under Windows using SQL  databases over networks with TCP/IP links. I installed SQL applications on NT, W2000 and XP operating systems and their networks.

2. I maintained and installed telephone equipment, mainly call sequencers and large voice recorders and telephone systems for small companies. I installed SQL, Crystal Reports and Fox database software on many different servers and desktops which I would interconnect.

3. I maintained and installed telephone equipment and line scanners using signaling on conventional lines and some experience with DSL lines and Voice Over IP (FDX840).

4. I have maintained computers operating under DOS, Windows 3.11 and Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP (call loggers), and Linux (Red Hat).

5. In the course of my duties I had to make changes to the programming of PBX’s.

I traveled extensively through out the UK and supported the efforts of sales and customer services so I was able to give advice and specifications for development purposes. I am aware of the special features required by different types of customers and the basic needs of engineers to be able to do the job. I maintained equipment and software for large accounts such as American Express, Barclays Bank, and nation wide business centers and also for medium and small size companies. In the course of my duties I would interpret the results from telephone traffic analysis call loggers and also was able to install and set up this equipment to look at the performance of the telephone system according to the business. For example customers can be suffering loss of business due to excessive ring time (time to pick up: staffing problem) or lines too busy (not enough lines). Also companies needing to replace a telephone switch may be interested in traffic studies and to determine the lines needed to satisfy that traffic and possible growth.  They may also need to know traffic to different countries and services in order to chose the most cost effective carrier.

1986-1989                       Senior Installation Engineer, [snip] (1986 to 1988) and Director [snip] (1988 to 1989) (located in Mitcham, Surrey)

I worked on similar equipment as above as both [snip] and [snip] were rival companies. I also studied telephone traffic and gave advice regarding conventional telephone lines, private circuits and telephone networks, which are now called WANS. A lot of consultancy was done on the GTN (Government Telephone Network). The type of directly connected circuits at the time for Wide Area Networks were AC15, DC10, broad-bands and kilo-streams.

During the last part of this period with other employees we bought out our division and became directors.  After a year I sold my shares to my partners.

1983-1986                       Senior Test Engineer, [snip] - Marine Division (Mitcham)

I worked on radio frequency transceivers (HF, VHF, and UHF Inmarsat satellite communications), fault finding to component level and setting up transceivers according to standards, specifications and to law. Here I contributed with my knowledge of electronics, studies of electromagnetic radiation and compatibility and my flexibility to work hard and learn new skills. I applied my abilities to a very wide range of instruments and equipment. I took with me experience in these areas of test and production. I worked on transmitters and receivers, digital and analogue, with spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, sensitive volt and noise meters.
