5 . Detailed experience per site (most recent fist)
[snip]
– Field Based – contract position
Working for the consulting division I am required to implement
solutions and upgrades as well as work on escalated cases for
the support division.
The main areas I work in are Data Protector, Netware, HP-UX,
High availability (Serviceguard, MSCS, Netware Clusters, APA
etc) and SAN implementations based on Cisco and Brocade
infrastructure with EVA and XP storage technologies.
[snip] – Brussels, Belgium – contract position
Updating and implementation of service level agreements with
core business Flow Management Divisions.
Planning, creation and giving of training for SAN (EMC and
Brocade) technologies, HP-UX hardware and software to over 40 1st
Line support staff and various second line support staff at 2
locations.
Ongoing generic administration of circa various HP-UX Mission
Critical servers in serviceguard clusters (circa 40) and over
140 HP-UX workstations within the CFMU division.
[snip] – Surrey, UK – contract position
Planning, design, purchase and
installation of replacement infrastructure to support business
activities from website & retail outlets and supply to the
automotive industry. Implementation includes Windows 2000
server ,exchange 2000, VPN links as well as HP-UX systems to
replace existing ego system, all machines utilized an brocade
based SAN infrastructure with storage on EVA
[snip]- Cambridge, UK – contract position
Mainly SAN implementation (HP XP) and assistance with and
support of the associated technologies (brocade switches,
surestore hubs etc). Design and implementation of the backup
strategy for both Unix and windows 2000
Involvement in project for replacement of MRP system and upgrade
to Oracle Apps 11I including disaster recovery using SAN to
replace existing Oracle financials system running under
Serviceguard.
Performance and capacity planning; [snip] had already ordered
hardware to run the apps11i solution on my arrival however it
was clear the intended platform would not suffice and thus we
changed the order. This created cost savings in excess of
£500,000 whilst at the same time introducing new sources of
supply to further reduce expenditure.
Updating of systems from older E, D & K class machines to newer
A/L/N class, proposal, specification and implementation of new
technologies to include Virtual partitioning (VPARS). Review of
disaster recovery processes & management of the three data
centers.
Provide training and seminars to internal staff who would be
responsible for these systems upon my departure, training
sessions included HP-UX 10.20, 11 and 11i as well as hardware,
HP 9000 A,D,K,L and N class machines.
Machines being migrated include Informix and Oracle based
applications based mainly around HP9000 V,K and D and R class
machines with disk storage located on EMC. Various NT machines
also migrated from the Brussels site.
[snip] - Peterborough, UK -
contract position
Technical architecture and design of cluster to support mission
critical applications to customers based on HP9000 machines.
Network maintenance including ISDN and WAN links handled by
CISCO routers, dialup and overall network design including
router and switch upgrades and replacements.
HP-UX generic administration as well as replacement of existing
machines with higher specification and the building of a further
serviceguard cluster to cater for the main oracle 7.x and 8.x
databases and at the same time provide resilience for the
development databases. Implementation of OFA standards when
rebuilding cluster for ease of management.
Replacement of Legato Networker with HP Omniback for backup
solution covering HP-UX and NT. Implementation of Raptor (prasesidium
efirewall) later replaced by Firewall-1 in line with parent
company policy
Working with the developers of the in house NT applications we
added API call routines to ascertain transaction response times,
this coupled with server side performance measurements on
current development hardware allowed me to specify the most
suitable hardware and thus make cost savings.
NT upgrades and rollout to desktop, assistance given to the NT
support team when required as 3rd line support.
[snip]
– Atherstone (near Birmingham), UK -
contract position
Short-term contract to find and resolve performance issues with
HP-UX based in house built application using C ISAM files.
Through data collections using measureware and kernel call
tracings on application PID`s across multiple sites located
throughout Europe I was able to ascertain the poor application
routines and the application development team wrote more
efficient routines to resolve the issues.
[snip] – Cambridge, UK - contract position
Whilst [snip] had several HP-UX machines when I joined there were
no "standards", drawing on experience gained I successfully
completed the following:
Installation of internal intranet server (running apache) to
serve Unix documentation, system reports, backup reports etc.
Writing of scripts utilising standard operating system
performance tools (sar vmstat etc) to gain stats on performance,
cleansing these figures and producing graphs which are displayed
via the above web server, allowing us to manage capacity
planning.
Implementation of Omniback onto NT server and workstations, Unix
and Novell, then later splitting the single cell into two cells
and adding resilience (serviceguard)
Assistance with implementation and troubleshooting of NT
installation across multiple sites. In charge of disaster
recovery issues for NT infrastructure including analysis, design
and implementation of solution.
Configuration of Research area HP 1000 servers to allow smooth
transition from HP 1000 ported application utilising HP2397
emulation (block mode graphics).
Rebuild of MC/Serviceguard cluster for main operational system (bITes)
running Oracle 7.3.4 (Gemms and Financials)
[snip]
– Cambridge, UK - Permanent employee
Joined [snip] as a Novell/NT support who could liaise with the
Unix Division my role soon changed to Unix support working with
the Sun and HP platforms
Mid 96 a new team was formed to cater solely for the HP systems
managing our Network Support and client provisioning engine
application based on HP 9000 computers running 9.04 & 10.20
utilising HP Openview Network Node Manager, Oracle, Remedy and
Bespoke software.
For the last 6 months I was not only the primary system
administrator for HP systems involving the specification,
ordering, build and support of over 70 HP 9000`s but also the
team leader responsible for day to day running of 3rd
line support activities within the engineering division.
Planning, building and commissioning of new data centre,
relocation of equipment, managing operational business risks
during relocation and ensuring seamless relocation.
External Dial in access for IT support using Ace server (securid)
Implementation of Fault tolerance for provisioning systems.
(Switchover and MC/Service Guard)
