July, 2003 to present

Since July 2003, I have been working as an independent consultant providing software to and working in a consultative role for my own clients.  Technologies used in variety of projects include VB.Net, Visual Basic 6, SQL Server, SQL, COM, Access and others.

I have recently completed work on an n-tier billing system for a client.  This was developed in VB6 using a SQL Server 2000 back-end, with output in Crystal Reports, HTML, XML and Word.   XML was used to transfer data between different systems.  The system also had integrated aspect with Excel and Word using VBA.

Other projects include a data access portal using VB6, SQL Server 2000, SQL, ODBC, ADO and JDBC; developing simple back-end Data Access Layers with VB.Net/C# and ADO.Net.

Another project for another client involved migrating and updating their computer systems, which were legacy Lotus Notes and Lotus Approach systems.  This included gathering and documenting requirements using industry standard methods, analysis and design, and coding.  This project was developed using Visual Basic 6 and MS Access.

Most projects I have worked on since 1998 have been object-oriented, using OO analysis, design and programming techniques.

The company is an established information technology consultancy, working in a variety of client/work domains, including systems development, e-commerce, m-commerce and project management.

My position has roles and responsibilities that fall into two main areas.  The first area is as Software Development Manager and Senior Systems Developer.

I have been managing and leading development teams on multiple projects but mainly for a specialized system for one of the company’s clients.  This system is developed largely in Visual Basic 6 (& various 3rd Party Controls, COM components) with a SQL-Server back-end.  Data is accessed via ADO/OLEDB and all output is developed using Crystal Reports 8.5.  Output can be delivered via printer, e-mail, SMS or fax, using fax-server software.

My responsibilities cover the entire life-cycle of the software development process, team leading, gathering, establishing and defining requirements, systems analysis, quality assurance, defining and implementing standards and procedures, change control, instigating changes to the website, liaising with client- and 3rd party companies and project management.

Software, technologies and standards used include Visual Basic 6, SQL-Server 7, Sheridan OCX Controls, Crystal Reports 8.5, SSADM Professional, Access 2000, Outlook, Visio, BPWin, Flash, XML, WAP, SMS, Team Coherence, Wise Installer, Windows APIs, C++, COM, ActiveX, OO, OLEDB, ADO, T-SQL, RelayFax, ZetaFax.

I have also been in charge of and involved in an R&D project, using the .Net framework, VS.Net, VB.Net and C#.

I also researched and implemented the ideal change control for [snip], in the light of the company’s development standards and geographically separate work force.

The second area involves generating new business for the company, marketing, meeting with potential clients, establishing relationships with strategic partners and R&D.

I have been responsible for designing Strategic Business Solutions, the marketing and delivery of consultancy services and responsible more generally for strategy, design and implementation.

Other responsibilities have included negotiating and managing contracts and SLAs, liaising with suppliers, devising and monitoring IT and internal policy and procedures (adhering to budgets), identifying market opportunities and implementing IT strategy to meet business objectives.

Dates

August, 1999 to July 2001

From 1999, I was engaged in work for my own clients and products, working on-site, from my offices and home.

This has involved managing and running my own business, establishing partners, working on joint ventures, employing staff and sub-contracting work.  Obviously, with running my own business, I was involved in many areas: recruitment, sales, advertising, marketing, defining internal policy, procedures and standards, QA, managing budgets, purchase control, R& D etc.

The majority of undertaken work was software development.  We used many tools in the Microsoft Visual Studio family but also worked with other technologies and various back-end databases.

The diversity of clients in our portfolio meant that I was able to gain sound business knowledge of companies (and their processes and systems) in a variety of market sectors.
