I have been working at the UK [snip] for over 3 years
working with the [snip] Oracle
Database’s for all UK ports e.g. airports, ferry ports etc.
As an Oracle DBA/ Deputy Team Leader. The role involves
liaising with all areas of the business from the senior
management through to all areas of the development life
cycle process e.g. Non functional test, functional test ,
uat and pre –production environments.
Additionally liaison with third party suppliers as well as
Oracle Corporation for licensing and specific account
details. It is the responsibility of my team to administer
and support all Oracle databases within the IND enclave.
Specific technical projects I have been involved in are
Database migrations from Oracle 7.3.4 to 8i and more
recently Oracle 8i to Oracle 10g including RMAN repository,
We also have Oracle9i databases in production, I have
implemented the RMAN backup and recovery solution and
project management of Oracle implementation.
I have designed and implemented the business continuity
solution for the [snip] using Oracle 10g Dataguard
logical and physical standby solutions. Logical standby
being used with the Management Information System which is
reported against via Business Objects.
Performance tuning has also been evident in the role
specifically with ensuring the development use bind
variables in code in order reduce latches and adhere to
Oracle best practices. I also analyze hourly statspack
reports within perfstat schema as well as tkprof analysis
during application releases.

Training
programme providing a firm foundation in commercial
management and experience of various business functions,
including IT, Training, Personnel and Sub-contracting within
GEC-Marconi.
During the first
year, experience was gained submitting commercial proposals,
vetting orders for compliance to offer, management of
contracts - identify change/cost/ impact, Involved in
compliance statement and “cost” risk & commercial aspects,
as well as exporting aspects including ECDG/NCM, Incoterms,
letters of credit, taxation, local legislation. Quotation
letters to customers, Building up of prices from a cost
price to selling price.
Other areas
covered within my first year of training were the
sub-contracts department, which briefly entailed customer
liaison for pricing of products, invoicing, checking terms &
conditions, as well as general office duties.
Within my second
year I spent the majority of my training within the
Integrated Systems Division, were on a daily basis I helped
support the IT help desk in dealing with queries relating to
various Microsoft applications.
Many of the tasks
undertaken in this area were of a technical nature as I was
acting as a first point of call for frustrated users.
