                                                Administer the councils extensive Novell and Windows server based network consisting of some 3000+ users, 30 Netware 4.xx servers and 15 Netware 5.xx servers, spread over some 30 sites, via Cisco routed leased lines. Hardware consists largely of Compaq and Dell file servers and Dell desktop systems.

Provide 1st and 2nd line support for the extensive Cisco switched and routed network, covering some 30+ sites.

Provide 2nd and 3rd line support for Netware, Windows and Citrix based servers and applications.

Provide 2nd and 3rd line support for the installation, configuration and administration of Novell ZENworks, including application creation and delivery, distribution of Windows policies and profiles, and remote management functions.

Administration of the councils legacy electronic mail system, based around versions 4.6.7 and 5.0.9 of Lotus Notes running on multiple Netware, Unix and Windows platforms.  Provide administration, testing and support for the councils replacement mail system running on multiple MS Exchange based servers.

Provide support and on the job training to, and assistance with the management of, a team of 10 server engineers. 

Provide a technical lead on all Netware and Notes issues to the departmental management team.

Plan and manage the replacement and migration of Novell servers running on unsupported hardware to new Dell server hardware.

Work with the Network support team to identify and resolve any LAN / WAN problems.

Provide immediate support to the Service Desk and Desktop Support engineers to identify and resolve reported problems.

                                                Provide support for the [snip] existing 3Com hardware based LAN infrastructure, consisting of a Corebuilder 7000 and SS2700 and 3000 switches, utilising HP Openview and 3Com Transcend network management software packages. Installation and maintenance of a Checkpoint FireWall1 software based firewall.  Installation of a Cisco router based solution to remote site access.
