Career History
|
Nov 2002 to
Present |
IT Consultant |
|
As a freelance consultant I have
successfully delivered configuration, implementation, and
support solutions. Outsourced by agencies, I have worked with
teams to ensure the completion of projects to meet the
requirements of client’s specifications. Activities have
typically included customer liaison, systems administration,
support, proposals, planning and documentation.
Recently, I have been involved in projects
delivering network solutions for SME installations. For HBOS I
was part of an initiative to install laptop security
software onto HBOS users laptops; for
[snip] I was
involved in a Windows 2000 Pro migration; for Lloyds TSB I was a
member of a deployment team upgrading the user base to an XP
desktop platform; for
[snip] I was responsible for
the server and desktop migration from a Windows NT 4.0 platform
to a Windows 2003 Server and Windows XP desktop environment; for
the [snip] I was part of a team responsible for the
decommissioning of 250 desktops, installing XP desktop
replacements and providing post-installation support.
|
Apr 1998 to
Nov 2002 |
Senior Systems Analyst |
[snip] |
I
was seconded to RAF
St Athan
to manage a team of
network specialists to migrate
a
Novell Netware
4.11/GroupWise
5.5
environment to a new NT
based system
running
Exchange Server 5.5
and utilising
SMS version
2.0. The project
required a
complete solution
to
be provided from
network
design
through to
the
migration of the
users and
their data. A
new
NT based workstation
desktop
environment was also
designed and
delivered to the
users
to
compliment
the NT
based server
applications.
We employed
three distinct project phases from test system builds, user and resource
migration and
final system
delivery. Each of the three phases required a separate network design. All
procedures were tested and
documented in a test environment. The documentation was then reviewed and
amended to reflect any changes that resulted from the testing, prior to being
used for the live migration environment being
implemented.
My specific responsibilities included:
Design and development of Windows NT logon scripts; defining
System policies for specific levels of
user privilege; creation of tools for mass user account
creation; providing training for Windows NT
administration; building
Windows NT servers to agreed client specifications;
configuration of Windows NT
servers to support TCP/IP networking; deployment of Dynamic Host
Configuration
Protocol to agreed scopes; defining subnets for specific
community demands; deployment of WINS;
documenting procedures;
providing support to the client's Call centre for the delivered
system; liaison with all levels of management to achieve project
goals.
As an IT Consultant other assignments included the installation
and configuration of a Web Server
for
[snip], using Internet Information Server 4. For HMS Portsmouth
responsibility was given for the delivery of a booking system,
installing and configuring SQL
Server 6 on a Windows NT
Server, and ensuring connectivity of Windows NT Workstations. At
251 Signal Squadron the project demanded the provision of
3rd line network and application support, with an
emphasis on skills transfer to other team members. On completion
of all assignments full
documentation, be it Requirement Specifications through to
Testing Documentation
was delivered to the client.
